I designed the Winter Waves Hat to help get you through the coldest season of all as colorfully and cozily as possible! This pattern is packed with simple “waves” of colorwork and a little bit of texture so it’s easy enough for anyone who loves to knit but has never tried colorwork before. It’s also perfect for colorwork pros who are looking for a super-satisfying, quick knit. This hat works up fast with bulky yarn and features short floats that won’t slow you down. Another awesome factor—although three colors are used to create this design, you only ever work with two colors at a time. Easy. Approachable. Just what you were looking for this winter!

16 sts and 16 rounds = 4” (10 cm) square in 1x1 half-twisted ribbing (hat brim) using smaller gauge needles
14 sts and 15 rounds = 4” (10 cm) square in the stranded pattern and stockinette (hat body) using larger gauge needles

This hat is designed to be worn with approximately 3.5” (9 cm) of negative ease and fit an adult head measuring up to 22.25” (56.5 cm).

Good pattern, easy to follow, quick to complete. Had to adjust, as instructed, for good fit. Made up as shown for my granddaughter. Liked so much I made myself one.
I've been disappointed in the last few Lion Brand yarns I've bought - Hue & Hometown specifically - and the too often bad joining knots.
Hi Rita - our apologies for any excessive knots in your skeins! Occasionally the mill will need to join a new strand in as the yarn is being wound, or the equipment will cause a small imperfection to occur. When you encounter a knot or small imperfection, simply cut that section from the yarn and rejoin just as if you were starting a new ball (i.e., leave a tail of 4-6' to be woven in later, then begin working with the new section, leaving another 4-6' tail to be woven in).
Easy color work pattern. I used different colors...juniper, saffron and salt. Have completed two so far and they are turning out great. Hue and Me yarn is a pleasure to work with. A true bulky 5 and nice stitch definition. Just ordered a shawl kit.
