Topsy Turvey not for me!

I purchased the Topsy Turvey Throw kit. The yarn is great but the pattern is too confusing! Granted I am still a bit of a beginner, but I have made my way through several patterns so far with no trouble. This one was not clearly presented, didn't use typical crochet abbreviations, and was inconsistent in some directions (like when to turn the piece, etc.) After several failed attempts, I found a different throw pattern on YouTube (by the same person who provided the Topsy Turvey pattern, I believe; Rohn Strong) and am making my way through that one just fine. It is disappointing as I do like the look of the blanket, but it would be helpful if the directions were more clear especially since they are advertised as for a Beginner-level 2 which I feel I am.
