Nice feel but skein was a mess

I bought this yarn to trim a fleece blanket for my grand-niece. The colors are very bright and it worked up nicely. I would have preferred a more gradual transition between colors, but that is just me. The reason for the three stars is that the skein was a hot mess. There was no way to pull an end free and it just came out in a bunched knotted disaster. Took an afternoon to sort that out. And then the last two feet of yarn had FIVE knots in it. Very disappointed and surprised as I have never had this happen with Lion Brand. For that price, I should have seen maybe one. I gave 3 stars because it was easy to work with and feels nice.

Great to work with

I like the way the variety of colors and the pattern that it makes. I just started my project and I can't wait to see what it looks like . It's for my granddaughter.

I just received my order today. So far, I love the colors that I ordered, but I have not had time to use it yet. As always, Lion Brand yarn is excellent quality. I just wish this yarn would be available in more colors for my plushie animals.

Probably not going to be my favorite blanket

I got six skeins of this to work up into a throw and the first thing I noticed when opening the packaging was the smell. There is a strong chemical odor coming off of this yarn. I would liken it to burning plastic. Not ideal. As I started working up the yarn the smell got worse to the point that I had to put down the project for a few weeks while the smell dissipated. The yarn says that it meets OEKO-TEX standards, and yet this smell is pretty noxious. I've recently picked the project back up and although the smell has lessened a little, it's still quite clearly there. I worry that when I wash this the smell won't go away as polyesters really love to trap odors, but haven't crossed that bridge yet.

The yarn itself is soft, as most polyesters are, and the colors are very vibrant. When compared to something like Bernat Blanket in the same weight skein (300g), this Cover Story is about half the size. They're both labeled as number 6 yarns with the same needle/hook recommendations, but truly the Cover Story works up closer to a number 5. The yarn itself looks to have a core with chenille fluff poking out the two sides giving this yarn a flatter dimension than other more rounded chenille yarns. That said, the core looks very sturdy and I haven't noticed any rogue fluffy bits coming out while knitting this up. I also haven't noticed many knots. The first skein had one, and the second hasn't had any yet and I'm about halfway through.

I'm going to finish the project eventually, but this is probably a yarn I will never purchase again. The smell is a lot to deal with and the general quality of the yarn doesn't really compare to other similarly priced chenille yarns I've used in the past.

Our apologies for the odor issue with your yarn! Please contact our quality control team at [email protected] so we can make a record of this issue and help make it right.

Extremely soft!

This blanket yarn is so soft! I used it to create the Crochet Kit - My Favorite Simple Cozy Shrug. It took me a bit to get used to crocheting with yarn so thick, especially with a BLO pattern, but once I got the hang of working with it, I really enjoyed it. When I did make mistakes it was simple to frog and never got tangled, ever.
