Love Mandala Yarn - Have a question

I love working with Mandala yarn. It always works up perfectly. The feel and drape is so great. As a beginner knitter is it normal to go UP 2 needle sizes to meet the gauge? This pattern refers to "sts" in gauge and not sts AND rows. To get to 17 sts per 4 inch I had to go up to size 10 needle. Can't believe I knit that tight. Thank you to anyone who can help.

Hi Nancy - it is possible that you'd have to go up more than one needle size to match the gauge. However, remember that the gauge given in the pattern is measured after blocking (unless stated otherwise), and you may find that blocking loosens up your stitches a little bit.
