Just Hemp fits all temps! This yarn is 100% hemp, which feels cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Like linen and other plant fibers, hemp works up into a durable fabric with wonderful drape. The yarn will soften as you stitch with it and get even softer with every wash, dry, and wear! Create beautiful projects like skirts and sweaters, washcloths and bags, and even blankets. The CYC 5 weight yarn comes in a sophisticated palette of 14 muted colors.

Great natural yarn for less soft projects

I feel like there are plenty of soft yarns in the world but this one fills a natural niche for me which is: less soft and fuzz prone, more practical and on the coarse side, without being cheap-feeling or synthetic. I have heard that hemp is supposed to be a great renewable material, but this is my first time working with it.

I am using this so far for basket projects using crochet. I have not yet finished a project but they asked for a review so I thought I'd give one since I'm already in love with this just for how different it is to what I am used to and how perfect it seems for this application.

I'm planning to use an insert to stiffen this basket but the yarn is self-supporting up to a certain point. It has a really nice texture for a bag or basket. I might also use it for home decor projects or large amigurumi. I'm not a maker of clothes yet but I would love to see it as a skirt or sweater as they suggest! I think it would make a fun outer layer.

I read a lot of reviews that it softens over time which I think will make it all the more lovely. I also just love the colors, I bought a variety and I'm excited to think of more things to make!

The one thing I would caution has already been said which is that the strands are prone to splitting. I am a new crocheter but long time knitter so it doesn't pose much of a problem, I just go a bit slower and take care to repair any accidental pulls if they occur as I go. I still very much enjoy the process, where others may be more frustrated especially if facing the challenges of learning a new craft at the same time, or trying to maximize their output with speed.

I especially love that this is a natural plant fiber, it's unique in the market that I have sampled, and I really hope they continue to make it because I will for sure be back for more!

Just Hemp perfect for summer bag

I wanted to try making a summer beach bag (Rec Club Backpack) from that called for bulky yarn. I needed something that would weather sand and dirt and washing. I think Just Hemp will be perfect for this project. It seems durable but not as stiff as 100% linen. I'm anxious to crochet this up!

Course loose threads

This is not a hand friendly, project friendly yarn. It is not twisted. More like loose strands. It is not soft or malleable. Bought for a knitted bag but I’d really just rather return it all for anything else.

Hello Amii - our apologies if this yarn isn't going to work for the project intended! It does become much softer with washing and use if you do decide to go forward with the project.

Hemp Separates

I like making things with hemp but this hemp yarn comes apart really easy as you work with it (the strands separate to easy).. but other than that I like the end result. I have to crochet a bit slower so that the strands do not separate. Below is an item that I made with it.

Great for a market bag!

I wasn't sure how this was going to work, but have been wanting to try hemp. It was better than I thought! It took a little getting used to but the finished product was worth it It separates at times but the end result is great if you can stick with it!
