GAUGE: 20 sts + 26 rows = 4" (10cm) with size 6 needles in St st (knit on RS; purl on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: | ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip the next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to the right needle; insert the left needle into the fronts of these 2 sts and k them tog. Color stripe pattern 3 Rows A, 1-B, 5-C, 1-A, 3-B, 7-C, 1-A, 3-B, 5-C, 3-A, 1-B, 7-C. Repeat these 40 rows.

ROMPER BACK
Back Left Lower Leg With A, cast on 22 sts. Working in St st and following Color Stripe Pattern above, work 4 rows even. Inc 1 st at beg and end of next row, then every 4th row 3 times more - 30 sts. Cont shaping only at right side edge. Work 3 rows even, work inc at beg of next row, then 7 rows even. Inc 1 st every other row 4 times, then every row 6 times - 41 sts. Dec 1 st at right side edge every row 6 times, every other row 2 times - 33 sts. Place sts on holder. Back Right Lower Leg Work as for Back Left Lower Leg, reversing shaping. Join Legs Work across 33 sts from Back Right Lower Leg, then 33 sts from Back Left Lower Leg. Work even on these 66 sts until piece measures 15 1/2 " from beg, end after WS row. Shape Armholes Bind off 8 sts at beg of next 2 rows - 50 sts. Work even until piece measures 3 1/2" above armhole shaping, end after WS row. Shape Neckline Work 19 sts, join 2nd ball and bind off 12 sts, work rem 19 sts. Working both sides at the same time, bind off at neck edge (every other row) 4 sts once, 2 sts 3 times, 1 st 6 times, bind off rem sts. FRONT Work as for Back until piece measures 2 3/4 " above armhole shaping, ending after WS row. Shape Neckline Work 22 sts, join 2nd ball and bind off 6 sts, work 22 sts. Working both sides at the same time, bind off at neck edge (every other row) 3 sts once, 2 sts 5 times, 1 st 6 times, bind off rem sts.SLEEVES (make 2)
With A, cast on 30 sts. Working in St st and changing colors as for Color Stripe Pattern, work 4 rows even. Inc 1 st at beg and end of next row, then every 4th row 11 times - 54 sts. Work even until piece measures 8 1/2" from beg, end after WS row, bind off all sts. POCKET
Mark placement for pocket (approximately 4 3/4 " square) on Front. Following Stripe Pattern to match Front, cast on 12 sts. Work 2 rows even. Inc 1 st at each end of every RS row 6 times - 24 sts. Work even until piece measure 4 3/4" from beg, ending after WS row, bind off all sts. HAT
With A, cast on 82 sts. Working in St st and following Color Stripe Pattern, work 20 rows even.
Next Row K 1, (ssk, k 16, k2tog, place marker) 4 times, k 1.
Next Row Purl.
Next Row K 1, (ssk, k to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker) 4 times, k 1.
Repeat last 2 rows until 10 sts remain, bind off. FINISHING
With 2 strands C and crochet hook, work 1 row of single crochet along neck edges of Front and Back. Lap shoulders with Back over Front by 2 1/2", tack in place along sides. Set sleeves into armholes. Sew underarm and side seams. Sew short crotch seams. With 1 strand B, join at Back Left Leg cuff, work 3 rows of single crochet (sc) along legs opening. Sew on 7 buttons evenly spaced. Join 1 strand B at Front Left Leg cuff, work 1 row sc. Work buttonholes in 2nd row opposite buttons as follows: sc to buttonhole, chain 1, skip 1 sc, cont in sc. Next Row Sc in each sc and buttonhole chain across. With 2 strands B, work 1 row sc around sleeve and leg cuffs and across pocket top. Finish top edge of pocket as for leg openings, making 1 buttonhole in center. Sew on pocket, sew button under buttonhole. Sew long side seam on hat, gather sts at top. With 2 strands C, work 3 rnds of sc around bottom, fasten off, weave in ends.
