GAUGE:

3.75 sts = 1inches on Size J hook. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Hooded Baby Blanket Reviewed by Michelle Woodruff on 2008-05-12 ****
I agree with other commenters about the size of the blanket being a bit too small. Added to that, I did not check my guage carefully and ended up about 4 inches smaller than the intended final size. I added a border in the pattern stitch to increase the size a bit--now I just have a ton of baby yarn left to find something else to make :). I would make again, starting with a larger foundation chain, and in a thicker or softer yarn, like Homespun or cotton. The Pound of Love yarn is very nice looking, but a little scratchy.
