Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across – 48 hdc.
Note: Notice that when you work an hdc, there is a bar/wrap across the middle of the post of the stitch. This bar was created when you worked the first yarnover (yo) when making the hdc. On Row 1 of this pattern, insert your hook into this horizontal bar.
Row 1: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc into horizontal bar of first hdc and each hdc across.
Rep Row 1 until piece measures about 32 in. (81 cm) from beg.
From RS, join yarn with a sl st in any corner of Shawlette.
Note: At the end of Rnd 1, the total st count will need to be a multiple of 4 sts.
Count your sts as you work Rnd 1, then work more or fewer sts so that you end with a multiple of 4.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, work sc evenly spaced around entire outside edge of Shawlette, working 2 sc in each corner and ending with a total st count that is a multiple of 4 sts. Join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, *sc in next st, sk next st, work 4 dc in next st, sk next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc.
Choose one long side of the Shawlette for the top edge. Fold this edge over about 5 in. (12.5 cm) for collar. Join yarn with a sl st through both layers, about 1 1/2 in. (4 cm) below fold, and make a ch about 12 in. (30.5 cm) long.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. Sl st into same place as beg of ch. Fasten off.
Rep on opposite side to make a second tie.
Weave in ends.
