Cozy Eyelet Shawl

Lion Brand® Amazing®

GAUGE:

13 sts + 18 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern stitch.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Yo (yarn over)
An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows:
1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles.
2. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.

PATTERN STITCH
Eyelet Pattern (multiple of 5 sts)

P1, k3, p1.
Row 2: K1, p3, k1.
Row 3: P1, yo, k3tog, yo, p1.
Row 4: K1, p3, k1.
Rep Rows 1-4 for Eyelet pattern.

NOTES:

1. Shawl is worked in one piece with increases for shaping.
2. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth in rows on circular needle as if working on straight needles.

Cozy Eyelet Shawl Reviewed by Leah Sowell on 2014-05-05 ****
I tried this pattern in Arcadia, and the resulting shawl is simply jaw-dropping. The shape is unique (which was why I noticed the pattern in the first place) and also a bit awkward if you want to knot it or throw the ends back over the shoulders; I'm going to add buttons so the front overlaps and stays closed on a windy day, kind of like a poncho. It truly works best worn with the ends hanging free as in the picture. I recommend blocking the shawl lightly to open up the lace pattern.
