GAUGE:

10 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern.
EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL FOR THIS PROJECT.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Yo (yarn over)
An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows:
1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles.
2. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.

NOTES:

1. Place markers as instructed on Row 3 to help keep track of your sts. On following rows, slip markers each time you come to them.
2. Shawl begins at center back neck and is shaped by working yarn over (yo) increases on every RS row.
3. 2 sts at the beginning and end of every row are always knit.
4. Shawl sts increase by 4 sts on every RS row, following Row 1.
5. A series of yarn overs and k2togs are worked on Row 9 to create the eyelet pattern.
6. Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.

I didn't think I would like this item until I finished it. It is just as pretty as the picture. Might make some more.
