Inside Out Circles Top

Lion Brand® Bonbons

GAUGE:

1 circle motif = 2 3/4 in. (7 cm) in diameter.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

2-dc Cl (2 double crochet cluster) Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops rem on hook), yarn over, insert hook in same st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.
3-dc Cl (3 double crochet cluster) Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops rem on hook), (yarn over, insert hook in same st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) 2 times (4 loops rem on hook) yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.
motif-join (an sc worked into ch-1 sp and simultaneously into a corresponding sc on another Motif to join the two Motifs together) Insert hook in next ch-1 sp of current Motif then into corresponding sc of Motif to which you are joining, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.

NOTES:

1. Top is not difficult to make, but does call for a few unusual techniques. We suggest you read carefully through these Notes before beginning.
2. Top is made from Strips of Circle Motifs. One Circle Motif is made, then succeeding Circle Motifs are worked and joined to previous Circle Motifs to form the first Strip.
3. Succeeding Strips are worked in the same way and joined to the previous Strip, and so on. For body, the ends of each Strip are joined to form rings. Follow the Motif Joining Diagram for joining locations.
4. Rings of Circle Motifs are joined together beginning at the waist, then Front and Back are worked separately.
5. There are 6 Color Combinations for the Circle Motifs. Work Motifs following Circle Motif Color Sequence. If you run short of yarn at any point, use remaining colors as desired.
6. Small Filler Motifs are worked into the spaces between joined Circle Motifs. Corner Filler Motifs are added to "even out" the armhole and neck edges.
7. There are 6 Color Combinations for the Filler Motifs. Work each Filler Motif in any of the combinations.
8. Filler Motifs are joined using a slightly different join-as-you-go technique. Follow the Motif Joining Diagram for joining locations.
9. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete st. Fasten off old color.
10. To reduce the number of ends to weave in later, work over yarn ends as you go.
11. Because of the unusual joining technique, Top can be worn with either side out.
