Bows For Headbands And Barrettes
Lion Brand® Bonbons
GAUGE: 24 sts + 35 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Stockinette st (knit on right side, purl on wrong side).
NOTES: 1. Each Bow is worked with 2 different colors of yarn, changing color following the Stripe Sequence. 2. In the Stripe Sequence yarns are referred to as A (the first color) and B (the second color. You can use yarn colors as you like, or follow our combinations. We used the following color combinations for our Bows: 1. (A) gold + (B) bronze 2. (A) magenta + (B) sparkling taupe 3. (A) teal + (B) dark purple 4. (A) red + (B) copper 3. Bows don't have to be used only on headbands and barrettes - they can be glued onto shoes, a purse or backpack - use your imagination!

STRIPE SEQUENCE Note: Yarns A and B can be any colors you like, or follow our combinations above. (4 rows A, 2 rows B) 3 times, 10 rows A, (2 rows B, 4 rows A) twice, 2 rows B, 8 rows A, 2 rows B, (4 rows A, 2 rows B) twice, 10 rows A, (2 rows B, 4 rows A) 3 times.
BOW Note: When changing from one color to another, you don't need to cut the yarn. Just carry the strand of the color you're not using along the side edge of your work. With A, cast on 20 sts. Work in Stockinette stitch (knit on right side, purl on wrong side) changing color following Stripe Sequence until the Stripe Sequence is complete. Bind off.
CENTER TIE With color as desired, cast on 20 sts. Knit 5 rows. Bind off.
FINISHING Sew ends of Bow together to make a loop. Thread blunt needle with a strand of yarn in any color. With seam at center back, flatten Bow. Sew a few big straight stitches through both layers of center of Bow, then pull to gather the Bow slightly. Wrap Center Tie over the gathers, then sew ends of Tie together at back of Bow. Weave in ends. Glue or sew Bow to headbands or barrettes. |
