Tunisian Crochet Entrelac Throw

Lion Brand« Vanna's Choice®

GAUGE:

12 sts + 10 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Tunisian Crochet;

One Block = about 3 in. (7.5 cm) measured diagonally.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

1. Throw is worked in Tunisian Crochet Entrelac.
2. A regular crochet hook is used instead of a Tunisian hook, since only a small number of sts are held on the hook for each Block.
3. All rows of Tunisian Crochet are worked with the RS facing at all times. Do not turn the work.
4. Each row of Tunisian Crochet is worked in two passes; a Forward Pass and a Return Pass. Loops are picked up and placed on the hook on the Forward Pass, then worked off on the Return Pass. Do not draw up a loop in the first vertical bar of a Forward Pass. The loop remaining on the hook after a Return Pass counts as the first loop of the next row.
5. Each Entrelac Row consists of Blocks of Tunisian Crochet. Each Block is made by working rows of Tunisian Crochet over a small section of sts of the previous row. Row 6 of each Block is not worked in Tunisian Crochet, but is worked in a single pass of sl sts only. The yarn is fastened off at the end of each Entrelac Row and the next color is joined to the beg of the row for the next Entrelac Row.
6. The odd-numbered Entrelac Rows are made of 19 Blocks and the even-numbered rows are made of 20 Blocks.

COLOR SEQUENCE
Each Entrelac Row is worked with one color. Work color sequence as follows: one row each with A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H. Rep this color sequence for the length of Throw.

Rows 2-5 - Forward Pass: Keeping all loops on hook, (insert hook from right to left under next vertical bar, yarn over and draw up a loop) 5 times, insert hook in next unworked ch of foundation ch and draw up a loop - 7 loops on hook. Return Pass: Rep Row 1 Return Pass.

Tunisian Crochet Entrelac Throw Reviewed by Melissa M on 2014-03-22 *****
Love this pattern. I just wrote these instructions and plan on starting this very soon. Have always steered away from Knit Entrelac (too many loose ends) but love this pattern, so much easier. Lionbrand, thank you so much for this pattern. I plan on using Bernat Sport Weight yarns in many colors, Size G hook and doubling the beginning chain to 420 ch. sts. for a very large afghan for my Queen bed. At least will try it with ch. 420. I will post pics later if afghan does get finished.
