GAUGE:

12 dc + 7 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

dc2tog (dc 2 sts tog) Yarn over, insert hook into st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops. Yarn over, insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through 2 loops, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook – 1 st decreased.

NOTES:

1. Ribbing for wrist edge of Mitten is worked back and forth in rows. The short ends of Ribbing are crocheted tog to form a tube. Sts are worked around one edge of the Ribbing, and the Mitten is worked upwards from the Ribbing.
2. Mitten is worked in joined rounds. Do not turn rnds. The beginning ch-2 is not counted as a st. Always work the first st of a rnd in the first dc, not into the top of the ch-2.
3. About half way up Mitten, sts are left unworked for thumb opening. St are worked around this opening, upwards to form thumb.

Frosty Mittens Reviewed by Melinda on 2014-02-07 ***
This was definitely an easy pattern; but the adult medium was way to big for my hands. It would be a great help if an adult or teen pattern size was included.

Not everyone has big hands, please make these corrections.
