Sweet Dreams Baby Cocoon and Hat Set

Lion Brand® Tweed Stripes® - Luxe Fur

GAUGE:

8 sts + 10 1/2 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) with 2 strands of A held tog.

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

1. Cocoon and Hat are worked in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) and are very stretchy.
2. Yarn B is worked with a single strand, yarn A is worked with 2 strands held together.
3. Stocking tails (knotted sections of Cocoon and Hat) are worked in I-cord.
4. Less than a half ball of B is needed for the Set.


COCOON
With circular needle and B, cast on 32 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Knit 2 rnds. Cut B. Join 2 strands of A.
With 2 strands of A held tog, work in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) until piece measures about 15 in. (38 cm) from beg.

Shape Base
Rnd 1: Change to double-pointed needles (dpn) as follows: With first dpn, *k6, k2tog from circular needle, rep from * with second, third and fourth dpn. You will have 4 dpn with 7 sts on each for a total of 28 sts.
Rnd 2: *K5, k2tog; rep from * around - 24 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: *K4, k2tog; rep from * around - 20 sts.
Rnd 4: *K3, k2tog; rep from * around - 16 sts.
Rnd 5: *K2, k2tog; rep from * around - 12 sts.
Rnd 6:*K1, k2tog; rep from * around - 8 sts.

Stocking Tail
Sl rem 8 sts onto a single double pointed needle. Work with 2 dpns to make I-cord tail as follows.
Row 1: Knit. At the end of this row and all following rows, do not turn work. Slide sts to other end of needle, and pull yarn tightly across the back of the work to work the next row.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: K1, k2tog, k rem sts - 7 sts.
Row 4: K1, k2tog, k rem sts - 6 sts.
Row 5: K1, k2tog, k rem sts - 5 sts.
Row 6: K1, k2tog, k rem sts - 4 sts.
Rows 7-14: Knit.
Row 15: (K2tog) twice - 2 sts.
Bind off.

HAT
With double-pointed needles (dpn) and B, cast on 20 sts.
Divide sts onto 4 dpn, with 5 sts on each needle.
Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Knit 2 rnds. Cut B. Join 2 strands of A.
With 2 strands of A held tog, work in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) until piece measures about 4 1/2 in. (11.5 cm) from beg.

Shape Crown (top of Hat)
Rnd 1: *K3, k2tog; rep from * around - 16 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 2 and 4: Knit.
Rnd 3: *K2, k2tog; rep from * around - 12 sts.
Rnd 5:*K1, k2tog; rep from * around - 8 sts.

Stocking Tail
Sl rem 8 sts to a single dpn and work stocking tail same as for Cocoon.

FINISHING
Weave in ends. Knot stocking tails of Cocoon and Hat.
