GAUGE:
16 sc = 4 in. (10 cm).
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES:
1. The Cover is worked in 2 pieces, Front and Back. 2. A rectangle is worked back and forth in rows for the center of the Front, then work continues in rnds, changing color as you work. 3. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete st. Carry unused color across WS of work. 4. The Back is worked all in one color, back and forth in rows. 5. Flap is crocheted directly onto the Cover.
FRONT Center Rectangle With A, ch 17. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 16 sts at the end of this row. Rows 2-7: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Change to B. Change to working in rnds. At end of rnds, do not join and do not turn. Rnd 1: With B, *work 5 sc evenly spaced along short end of Center Rectangle to next corner, work 3 sc in corner, work 14 sc evenly spaced across long side of Center Rectangle to next corner, work 3 sc in corner; rep from * once more - 50 sts at the end of this rnd. Rnd 2: Sc in each st around, working 3 sc in center st at each corner - 58 sts. Rnd 3: Rep Rnd 2 - 66 sts. Change to A. Rnd 4: With A, rep Rnd 2 - 74 sts. Change to B. Rnds 5-7: With B, rep Rnd 2 - 98 sts at the end of Rnd 7. Change to A. Rnd 8: With A, rep Rnd 2 - 106 sts. Change to B, fasten off A. Rnds 9-13: With B, rep Rnd 2 - 146 sts at the end of Rnd 13. Fasten off.
BACK With A, ch 30. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 29 sts. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Rep Row 2 until Back measures same as Front. Fasten off.
FINISHING Hold Front and Back with WS tog. From RS and working through both thicknesses, join A with sl st in corner, ready to work along a long side. Work sc evenly spaced along 2 long and 1 short side, work 3 sc in corners. Leave remaining short side open. Fasten off.
Tab From RS, join B with sl st in 8th st along open edge of Back. Row 1: Ch 1, sc in same st and next 14 sts; leave last 8 sts unworked - 15 sts. Rows 2-5: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Fasten off. Sew one half of hook and loop tape to tab. Sew other half of tape to Front, aligning it with the tab. Weave in ends.
