GAUGE:

11 sts + 13 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS).

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

1. Mitts are worked back and forth in rows and then seamed, leaving an opening for the thumb.
2. Rows that are worked as knit on the WS create decorative ridges on the RS.

MITTS (make 2)
Cast on 19 sts.
Beginning with a RS (knit) row, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) for 3 rows.
Next Row (WS): Knit.
Work in St st for 5 rows
Next Row (WS): Knit.
Repeat last 6 rows 2 more times.
Work in St st for 3 rows.
Bind off.

FINISHING
Sew sides together for 1 in. (2.5 cm). Leave the next 2 in. (5 cm) open for thumb, then sew remainder of seam. Repeat to sew 2nd Mitt. Weave in ends.
