Diagonal Mesh Pullover

Lion Brand® Cotton-Ease®

GAUGE:

15 1/2 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Diagonal Mesh pattern.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

PATTERN STITCH
Diagonal Mesh Pattern (over even number of sts)
Row 1 (WS):
Purl.
Row 2: K1, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 for Diagonal Mesh pattern.

NOTES:

1. Pullover is worked in one piece beg at lower edge of front, working up and over shoulders, then down to lower edge of back.
2. Measure pieces along center, not along edges.
3. Diagonal Mesh pattern will create a diagonal 'pull' around Pullover, including the seams.
4. Work all cast ons and bind offs loosely.

PULLOVER
Front

Beg at lower edge of front, loosely cast on 74 (90, 104) sts.
Work in Diagonal Mesh pattern, beg with Row 1, until piece measures 16 1/2 (17, 17 1/2) in. (42 (43, 44.5) cm) from beg, measured straight up center from cast-on edge, end with a WS row. Note: End with a WS row means that the last row you work should be a WS row, and the next row that you are ready to work will be a RS row.
Cast on for Sleeves
Next Row (RS):
Cast on 74 sts for first sleeve. Working across cast-on sts, then across sts of front, k1, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 - 148 (164, 178) sts at the end of this row.
Next Row (WS): Cast on 74 sts for second sleeve .
Purl across cast-on sts, then across sts of front and first sleeve - 222 (238, 252) sts at the end of this row.
Work in Diagonal Mesh pattern, beg with Row 2, until sleeve measures 6 1/2 (7, 7 1/2) in. (16.5 (18, 19) cm), measured straight up from sleeve cast-on edge, end with a WS row.

Divide for Neck
Next Row (RS):
K1, (yo, k2tog) 46 (50, 53) times, k1, loosely bind off next 34 (34, 36) sts for neck, Note: the st that remains on your right hand needle after binding off counts as a k1; *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last st, k1 - 94 (102, 108) sts for each shoulder.
Next Row (WS): P94 (102, 108) cast on 34 (34, 36) sts over bound-off sts of previous row, p to end of row - 222 (238, 252) sts at the end of this row.
Work in Diagonal Mesh pattern, beg with Row 2, until piece measures 6 1/2 (7, 7 1/2) in. (16.5 (18, 19) cm) measured straight up from neck, end with a WS row.

Bind off Sleeves
Next Row (RS):
Loosely bind off first 74 sts, Note: the st that remains on your right hand needle after binding off counts as a k1; *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 - 148 (164, 178) sts at the end of this row.
Next Row (WS): Loosely bind off first 74 sts, purl to end of row - 74 (90, 104) sts at the end of this row.
Work in Diagonal Mesh pattern, beg with Row 2, until piece measures 16 1/2 (17, 17 1/2) in. (42 (43, 44.5) cm) measured straight up center from sleeve bind off.
Bind off loosely.

FINISHING
Following schematic, fold piece in half along shoulders.
Sew side and sleeve seams. Weave in ends.

Diagonal Mesh Pullover Reviewed by Mary Maniscalco-Theberge on 2014-10-05 ***
I rally liked the pattern, however a lot of work. I would agree that the sleeves turn out way to long by about 30 stitches on each side. Taking 60 stitches off the long portion would
Have made it quicker. I also am trying to compress the sleeves from the inside to make it wearable. Otherwise about 27 hours of knitting for a garment that will not be worn
