Stripes And Arrows Afghan

Lion Brand® Homespun®

GAUGE:

10 1/2 hdc + 7 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

1. Afghan is made from 5 Strips; 3 of Strip A and 2 of Strip B.
2. Each Strip is worked in two colors following a color chart.
3. When following charts, RS rows are the odd-numbered rows, WS rows are the even numbered rows. Read RS chart rows from right to left and WS chart rows from left to right. Each box represents one hdc.
4. To change color, work the last st of old color to the last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete the st. Do not cut old colors. Carry old color across the top of the previous row working over the old color with the new color.

STRIP A (make 3)
With A, ch 38.
Chart A Row 1 (RS): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across - 36 sts at the end of this row. Change to B. Do not cut A. Carry old color across top of row and work sts of next row over the old color with the new color.
Chart A Row 2: With B, ch 2, turn, hdc in first 3 sts; change to A, hdc in each st across.
Continue to follow Chart A, working Rows 2-25 for a total of 3 times (73 rows total). Fasten off.

STRIP B (make 2)
With C, ch 20.
Chart B Row 1 (RS): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across - 18 sts at the end of this row. Change to D. Do not cut C. Carry old color across top of row and work sts of next row over the old color with the new color.
Chart B Row 2: With D, ch 2, turn, hdc in first 3 sts; change to C, hdc in each st across.
Continue to follow Chart B, working Rows 2-25 for a total of 3 times (73 rows total). Fasten off.

FINISHING
Following Assembly Diagram, seam long edges of Strips together. Weave in ends.
