GAUGE:

1 Square = 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 in. (14 x 14 cm) When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Mitered Squares Baby Throw Reviewed by wrlargent on 2012-08-01 *****
I made this pattern for my 7 year old niece. Obviously it is too small, so I made it 4 times as big and it turned out perfect. This was my first blanket that I ever crocheted and I found it very easy. I did not use the cotton yarn, I used worsted weight. I also added an edging around it. I am currently working on another one using this pattern, but actually for a baby.
