GAUGE: Exact gauge is not essential to this project.
STITCH EXPLANATION: | extended sc Insert hook into next st 1 row below. Yarn over and draw up a loop to the height of the current row. Yarn over and draw through both loops on hook. |
NOTES: IMPORTANT NOTE
Because of button eyes, Doll should not be given to small children. To make doll safe for children, use purchased safety eyes instead of buttons.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
1. To change color, work last st of first color to last yarn over, yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete st.
2. Body is worked back and forth in rows. Legs and Arms are worked in continuous rnds; do not join or turn unless otherwise instructed.

BODY
Beg at lower edge of Body, with A, ch 37.
Set Up Row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 36 sts at the end of this row.
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Change to B.
Row 2: With B, ch 1, turn, * sc in each of next 2 sts, extended sc in each of next 2 sts; rep from * across.
Rows 3 and 4: With B, ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Change to A.
Row 5: With A, rep Row 2.
Change to B.
Row 6: With B, ch 1, turn, * extended sc in each of next 2 sts, sc in each of next 2 sts; rep from * across.
Rows 7 and 8: With B, rep Rows 3 and 4. Change to A.
Row 9: With A, rep Row 6.
Rep Rows 2-9 until piece measures about 10 in. (25.5 cm) from beg. Change to C.
Last 4 Rows: With C, ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Fasten off.
LEGS (make 2)
With B, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 8 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnds 2-12: Sc in each st around.
Change to A.
Rnds 13-35: Sc in each st around, stuffing as you work.
Fasten off.
ARMS (make 2)
With B, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 8 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnds 2-16: Sc in each st around. Change to A.
Rnds 7-27: Sc in each st around, stuffing as you work.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Finished Body piece is a flat rectangle. Sew the two side edges of the rectangle together, to make a ‘tube’. Flatten Body, so that seam is at center back. Sew buttons to Body for eyes. With yarn or embroidery floss, embroider a straight st mouth and 'eyelashes' above button eyes. Seam top edge of body. Stuff Body, then seam lower edge. Sew Arms and Legs to Body. Weave in ends. |

Like all the sally dolls very much. Worked the body in the round , to avoid having to seam up the back.
Join the ends of the foundation chain with a slip stitch, being careful not to twist it, then work around.
If you don't care if the stripes are slightly off set , work in the round as if making the arms/legs, without joining.
If you want to keep the stripes straighter, work a slip stitch join at the end of each round, then chain 1 and begin next round without turning.
