Tranquil Violet Hat
Lion Brand® Cotton-Ease®
GAUGE: 17 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Stockinette st worked in the rnd (k every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: kfb (knit into front and then back)
An increase worked as follows:
1. Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.
2. Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st. You will have created 2 loops (sts) on your right hand needle.
3. Drop the st from your left hand needle - you have increased 1 st.

I only started knitting last month, so I wasn't sure if this hat would be easy enough. This was my first project with double pointed needles, and although I found it slightly confusing at first, I quickly figured out what to do. I'm almost done with this hat now and I'm really pleased with how cute it is. I think they need a picture of the top of the hat so people can see how pretty it is. I used azalea cottonease.
One tip - once I got past the last row of increases, I moved the stitches over to a fourth needle so that I had 22 stitches per needle - knitting with the fifth. I think it would be even easier to move to circular needles at that point, although having it on three needles at first really helped in keeping track of the increase areas. I watched a short video on the kfb stitch, and on dp needles and then I gave it a try. I will definitely make this one again.
