GAUGE:

12 sc + 16 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

Large hook is used to create an open fabric that will easily stretch to fit a range of sizes.

SHRUG
Ch 127.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 126 sts at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, working in back loops only, sc in each sc across.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures about 28 in. (71 cm) from beginning.
Fasten off.

FINISHING
Fold piece in half to measure 21 x 28 in. (53.5 x 71 cm). Place markers on each of the 21 in. (53.5 cm) sides, 7 in. (18 cm) below fold for armholes. Seam sides from markers down to lower edge.

Sequoia Shrug Reviewed by nancy jackovich on 2012-01-21 *****
Last year I used a solid yarn which looked very nice, the stitch gives it a corduroy-like appearance. The repetitious stitch is good for us beginners.

However I did not watch my borders,ie, crocheted looser at times, so it turned out very large.

I added a button at the front.
I will make this again, but with a varigated yarn.
