4th Of July Garland

Lion Brand® Cotton-Ease®

GAUGE:

14 1/2 sc + 15 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

You can easily customize the size of your Garland. Simply make more or fewer Flags and a shorter or longer Chain as desired. If you opt to make more Flags and a longer Chain, you may require additional yarn.

FLAG (make 9 - 3 each with A, B, and C)
Ch 2.
Row 1: Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook - 2 sc at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in each st across - 4 sc at the end of this row.
Rows 3 and 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in each st across to last st, 2 sc in last st - 6 sc at the end of this row.
Rows 6-23: Repeat Rows 3-5 six times - 18 sc at the end of Row 23.
Round 24: Do not turn, work sc evenly spaced around entire outside edge of Flag; join with sl st in first sc.
Fasten off.

FINISHING

Reviewed by Emily Smith on 2012-10-16 *****
I really loved this pattern. It worked up very quickly and is so easily customizable to different sizing and colors. I used 10 pink, 10 orange and 10 yellow flags for my banner, for my sister's baby shower. I stopped at the 16 sc row on each flag and I thought they were plenty big. Also, to attach them all together, I chained 20 with white, attached with a sc in the corner of the flag, chained 2 and then attached with a sc on the 3rd sc from my last stitch (skipped 2), and repeated that across the top of the flag, then chained 10 in between each flag. I didn't measure yet, but the full length ended up much longer than I had expected. Overall, this pattern was exactly what I was looking for. It was a great travel project too! Thanks a lot!!
