GAUGE:
14 sc + 16 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased. sc3tog (sc 3 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. (Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop) twice. Yarn over, draw through all 4 loops on hook - 2 sts decreased.
NOTES:
1. Cover Up is worked in 2 pieces, the Back and the Front. The shoulders and sides are seamed, leaving 6 in. (15 cm) open at lower side edges for side slits.
2. The Back and Front are identical except for neck shaping
3. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete the st.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Rep last 2 rows until piece measures 23 in. (58.5 cm) from beg; end with a WS row (Row 2). Note: End with a WS row means that the last row you work should be a WS row, and the next row that you are ready to work will be a RS row.
