Big Stitch Pillow

Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick®

4 sts = about 3 in. (7.5 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with 3 strands held together.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Seed Stitch (multiple of 2 sts + 1)
Row 1:
*K1, p1; rep from * across to last st, k1.
Row 2: P the knit sts and k the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for Seed st.

Pillow Back is worked in two pieces. These pieces are overlapped when sewing Pillow tog, to create an envelope-style Back through which pillow form can be inserted.
With 3 strands held together, cast on 27 sts.
Rows 1 and 2: Work in Seed st.
Row 3: *Work in Seed st as established over 3 sts, (yarn over, k2 sts tog for buttonhole), work in Seed st as established over 4 sts; rep from * across.
Change to St st (k on RS, p on WS) and work until piece measures about 12 in. (30.5 cm) from beg.
Bind off.
With 3 strands held together, cast on 27 sts.
Rows 1-3: Work in Seed st.
Change to St st and work until piece measures about 10 in. (25.5 cm) from beg.
Bind off.

With 3 strands held together, cast on 27 sts.
Work in St st until piece measures about 20 in. (51 cm) from beg.
Bind off.

Lay Backs on a flat surface with RS facing and overlapping Seed st edges to form a 20 x 20 in. (51 x 51 cm) square. Sew Backs together at overlapped edges.
With RS together, seam Back to Front around entire outside edge.
Turn Pillow to RS through back opening. Sew buttons to underlap, opposite buttonholes. Weave in ends. Insert pillow form.
