GAUGE: 13 sc + 15 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: | sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased. |
NOTES: 1. Hat is worked in continuous rounds; do not join and do not turn at beg of rnds.
2. Hat is worked from tip downwards. Add additional rnds or additional increases to make a larger hat.

BABY HAT
With A, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in first ch.
Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 3: Work 2 sc in each st around - 10 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 4 and 5: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around - 15 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 7 and 8: Rep Rnds 4 and 5.
Rnd 9: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around - 20 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 10 and 11: Rep Rnds 4 and 5.
Rnd 12: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts; rep from * around - 25 sts.
Rnds 13 and 14: Rep Rnds 4 and 5.
Rnd 15: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts; rep from * around - 30 sts.
Rnds 16 and 17: Rep Rnds 4 and 5.
Rnd 18: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts; rep from * around - 35 sts.
Rnds 19 and 20: Rep Rnds 4 and 5.
Rnd 21: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 6 sts; rep from * around - 40 sts.
Rnds 22 and 23: Rep Rnds 4 and 5.
Rnd 24: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 7 sts; rep from * around - 45 sts.
Rnds 24 and 25: Rep Rnds 4 and 5.
Rnd 26: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 8 sts; rep from * around - 50 sts.
Rnd 27: Sc in each st around.
Rep Rnd 27 until piece measures about 9 1/2 in. (24 cm) from beg.
Fasten off A.
Join B with sl st in same space.
Next Rnd: With B, and working through back loops only, sc in each st around.
Rep last rnd until piece measures about 14 in. (35.5 cm) from beg. Fasten off.
CHILD HAT
With A, ch 2.
Rnds 1-26: Work same as Rnds 1-26 of Baby Hat.
Rnds 27 and 28: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 29: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 9 sts; rep from * around - 55 sts.
Rnd 30: Sc in each st around.
Rep Rnd 30 until piece measures about 11 1/2 in. (29 cm) from beg.
Fasten off A.
Join B with sl st in same space.
Next Rnd: With B, and working through back loops only, sc in each st around.
Rep last rnd until piece measures about 16 in. (40.5 cm) from beg. Fasten off.
TEEN/ADULT HAT
With A, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in first ch.
Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 3: Work 2 sc in each st around - 10 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 4-6: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 7: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around - 15 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 8-10: Rep Rnds 4-6.
Rnd 11: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around - 20 sts at the end of this rnd.

Rnds 16-18: Rep Rnds 4-6.

Fasten off A.
Join B with sl st in same space.
Next Rnd: With B, and working through back loops only, sc in each st around.
Rep last rnd until piece measures about 19 in. (48.5 cm) from beg. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Pom-Pom
With B, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first ch.
Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around - 12 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around - 18 sts.
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around - 24 sts.
Rnd 5: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 6: *Sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around - 18 sts.
Begin to stuff piece.
Continue to stuff as work progresses.
Rnd 7: *Sc2tog, sc in next st; rep from * around - 12 sts.
Rnd 8: (Sc2tog) around - 6 sts.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through sts of last rnd and tighten. With tail, tie Pom-pom to Hat.

| I made all my grandkids this hat for Christmas, my eldest granddaughter wore her's all the time. It's an easy pattern to follow for a beginner, however the red was hard to visual the stitches, I had to use a lot of light while doing this.
