GAUGE: 7 single crochet and 9 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: Hat is worked in continuous rounds. Do not join at end of rounds.

Chain 2.
Round 1: Work 6 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, place marker for beginning of round - 6 stitches.
Round 2: (Single crochet in next stitch, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 3 times - 9 stitches.
Round 3: (Single crochet in each of next 2 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 3 times - 12 stitches.
Round 4: (Single crochet in each of next 2 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 4 times - 16 stitches.
Round 5: (Single crochet in each of next 3 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 4 times - 20 stitches.
Round 6: (Single crochet in each of next 4 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 4 times - 24 stitches.
Round 7: (Single crochet in each of next 5 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 4 times - 28 stitches.
Work 1 round even (work 1 single crochet in each st around).
Next Round: (Single crochet in each of next 6 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 4 times - 32 stitches.
Work 1 round even.
Next Round: (Single crochet in each of next 7 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 4 times - 36 stitches.
Work even on 36 stitches until piece measures 10 in. (25.5 cm) from beginning.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Pompom
Following package directions, make a pompom. Tie pompom to top of Hat. Weave in ends.
