GAUGE:

9 pattern reps = about 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

1. Band is worked first, as a long strip. The ends of Band are slip stitched together to form a ring.
2. The sides and crown of the Beret are worked in continuous rnds from the Band upwards. Do not join rnds and do not turn. The first rnd of the Beret is worked into the ends of along one side edge of the Band.
