Diagonal Stripe Lapghan

GAUGE:
15 sts + 32 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
kfb (knit in front and back) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st - 1 st increased. M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting horizontal thread lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased. M1 as if to purl (make 1 st as if to purl) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto the left needle. Purl this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.
NOTES:
1. Lapghan is worked in Garter st (k every row) beg at one corner and working diagonally across to the opposite corner.
2. First half of Lapghan (inc half) is shaped by inc one stitch at the end of every row until there are 186 sts. For second half of Lapghan (dec half), one st is dec at the end of every row until only 2 sts remain.
3. The stripes on the inc half of the Lapghan are the mirror-image of the stripes on the dec half of the Lapghan.
4. Lapghan is worked back and forth in rows, using circular needle to accommodate large number of sts.

With A, cast on 2 sts. Row 1: Knit - 2 sts at the end of this row. Row 2: K1, kfb - 3 sts at the end of this row. Row 3: K2, kfb - 4 sts at the end of this row. Row 4: K3, kfb - 5 sts at the end of this row. Row 5: Knit to last st, kf&b - 6 sts at the end of this row.

Rep last 2 rows until there are 103 sts. Bind of loosely.
Work border, in same way, across remaining 3 side edges. Sew corners of border together.
Weave in ends.

I am nearly half finished using a different color scheme (yarns I already had - Vanna's Choice yarn is soft and lovely). It is a leisure-time pursuit and can be readily picked up to knit a row or more...interesting to watch the colors develop...easy, too.
