GAUGE: 18 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) with A, in Pattern st. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: PATTERN STITCH (multiple of 12 sts + 6)
Row 1: K3, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Rows 2 and 4: K3, p to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 3: Knit.
Rows 5 and 8: K3, *k3tog, k4, yo, k1, yo, k4; rep from * across, end k3.
Rows 6, 7 and 9: K3, *p3tog, p4, yo, p1, yo, p4; rep from * across, end k3.
Rows 10-18: Rep Rows 1-9.
Rep Rows 1-18 for Pattern st.

*With A, work Rows 1-18 of Pattern st. Change to B and work Rows 1-18 of Pattern st. Change to C and work Rows 1-18 of Pattern st. Change to D and work Rows 1-18 of Pattern st. Rep from * 5 more times.
With A, work Rows 1-8 of Pattern st. Bind off.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.

I love this pattern! It looks much more complicated than it actually is. There's only one problem. I ordered the yarn directly from the pattern page and just assumed that the colours on the page were the same as shown. The hazelnut turned out to be much darker brown in colour than I expected. In the picture with the lady on the beach it looks more like they've used the colour Sand.
Also in the pattern it says to knit rows 1-8 with the colour A at the very end. I don't know if that's a miss print but to me it makes more sense to do the full 18 rows of A at the end.
Besides that it's a fun shawl to make!
