GAUGE:

16 half double crochet + 12 1/2 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Little Princess Cardi Reviewed by Jacquie on 2011-12-11 ****
This was my first attempt at crocheting a clothing item, and this pattern was great! I like that I can use it as a base if I want to make small changes to it later on for a slightly different look. It works up fairly quickly and it's very easy to follow.

The only issue I had was piecing it together. For some reason I totally blanked on how the sleeves were supposed to go on. My grandmother quickly set me straight though and I was on my way again. LOL

I would recommend that anyone else making a clothing item for the first time look at tutorials or speak to an experienced crocheter on how to lay the pieces out and assemble them. Sewing a proper seam also stumped me, and that was another thing I needed to consult with my gram on.
