GAUGE:

Exact gauge is not essential to this project.

NOTES:

1. Mesh rectangle is crocheted, then ruffles are worked across the foundation ch and Rows 1-4 of mesh.
2. Flowers are made separately, then sewn to Shawl.
3. Beginning ch should be worked very loosely. At the end of Row 1, each ch-sp will measure about 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm).

SHAWL
With larger hook, ch 166.
Row 1: Tr in the 10th ch from hook, *ch 3, sk next 3 ch, tr in next ch; rep from * across – 40 ch-sps at end of this row.
Rows 2-8: Ch 7, turn, tr in next tr, ch 3, *sk next ch-3 sp, tr in next tr, ch 3; rep from * across, sk next 3 ch of turning ch, tr in next ch.
Row 9: Ch 4, 3 tr in first ch-3 sp, *4 tr in next ch-3 sp; rep from * across to last ch-sp, 3 tr in last ch-sp, tr in 4th ch of turning ch.
Row 10 (Neck Edge): Ch 1, turn, sc in each tr across, sc in top of turning ch. Fasten off.
Ruffles
Note:
Ruffles are worked back and forth in a continuous row across the foundation ch and Rows 1-4. Join yarn with sl st in first ch-3 sp along base of foundation ch.
Row 1: Ch 4, 3 tr in first ch-3 sp, (ch 1, 4 tr in next ch-3 sp) across; *ch 1, rotate piece to work in end of the row above, work 4 tr in sp at end of row; rotate piece to work in ch-3 sps of next row above; (ch 1, 4 tr in next ch-3 sp) across; rep from * 3 more times (for a total of 5 ruffles).
Row 2: Ch 4, turn, 2 tr in sp between first 2 tr, *ch 1, sk next 2 tr, 2 tr in sp between last tr skipped and next tr; rep from * across all ruffles and working last 2 tr in sp between last tr and turning ch. Fasten off.

FLOWER (make 5)
With smaller hook, ch 6; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 6, (counts as dc, ch 3), dc in ring, ch 3, (dc in ring, ch 3) 4 times; join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch – 6 ch-3 sps at end of this rnd.
Rnd 2: (Sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch-3 sp around; join with sl st in first sc – 6 petals at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: Working behind sts of Rnd 2, ch 5, *sc in next dc of Rnd 1, ch 5; rep from * around; join with sl st in base of beg ch-5.
Rnd 4: (Sc, hdc, 5 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch-5 sp around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 5: Working behind sts of Rnd 4, ch 5, *sc in next sc of Rnd 3, ch 5; rep from * around; join with sl st in base of beg ch-5.
Rnd 6: (Sc, hdc, 6 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch-5 sp around; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

FLOWER CENTER (make 5)
Note:
Work in continuous rnds; do not join or turn. With smaller hook, ch 3; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 2 sc in each ch around – 6 sc at end of this rnd.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc at end of this rnd.
Rnds 3 and 4: Sc in each sc around. Stuff center with fiberfill.
Rnds 5 and 6: *Sk next st, sl st in next st; rep from * around – 3 sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Sew a Center into the middle of each Flower. Sew Flowers as desired to neck edge of Shawl. Weave in ends.

made this pattern using wool-ease sage and mustard for flowers, used only 2 and half
balls, used only 1/4 mustard for two large flowers, five is way to many if using H hook, maybe five different sizes would be better ratio. Also I continued ruffle across bottom sides and shawl hangs
better as ruffles hang in continuous roll. Will make again soon for Xmas gift. But in better colors , Great design loved making this pattern. Better picture of finished shawl would have helped.
