GAUGE:

14 sts + 20 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Stockinette st (k on RS, p on WS). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Bethel Woods Cardigan Reviewed by AESF on 2014-06-02 ***
I like this pattern, but I think there is a mistake.
On the Left-Front instructions it says:
Next (Buttonhole) Row: K6 (for buttonband), p to end of row, casting on 2 sts over bound off sts of previous row.
Continue as established, keeping 6 sts in Garter st for buttonband and rem sts in St st, and continuing to work a buttonhole opposite each marker, until piece measures same as Right Front to armhole, end with a RS row.

I think the final row of the part up to the armhole should be a wrong side row.
