Bird's Nest Baby Throw

GAUGE:

Rnds 1 and 2 = 3 in. (7.5 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

COLOR SEQUENCE
*Work 1 rnd with A, 1 rnd with B, 1 rnd with C; rep from * for Color Sequence.

THROW
With A, ch 4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 2 dc in ring, ch 2, (3 dc in ring, ch 2) 3 times; join with sl st in top of beg ch. Fasten off A.
Rnd 2: Join B with sl st in any corner ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-sp (corner made), ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp (corner made), ch 1; rep from * 2 more times; join with sl st in top of beg ch. Fasten off B.
Rnd 3: Join C with sl st in any corner ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-sp, ch 1, *3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1; rep from * 2 more times, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; join with sl st in top of beg ch. Fasten off C.
Rnd 4: Join next color of Color Sequence with sl st in any corner ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-sp, ch 1, *(3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) to next corner ch-2 sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next corner ch-2 sp, ch 1; rep from * 2 more times, (3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) around; join with sl st in top of beg ch. Fasten off.
Rnds 5-27: Rep Rnd 4, and continue changing colors according to Color Sequence.
Rnd 28: With A, rep Rnd 4.
Rnd 29: Join B with sl st in any corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 sc in same ch-sp, *sc in each dc and ch-1 sp to next corner ch-2 sp, 3 sc in next corner ch-2 sp; rep from * 2 more times, sc in each dc and ch-1 sp around; join with sl st in beg ch. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.

This is the perfect throw for a beginner crocheter. I made this blanket in the same colours for a friend; I did two rows of colour instead of one and it turned out beautifully. I used a slightly more hardy yarn (aka throw it in the washer/dryer without care) since it was for a little one.
I love this pattern so much that I'm using it again - this time with 4 colours instead!
