Cardiff Cowl

Lion Brand® LB Collection® Baby Alpaca

GAUGE:

15 dc = about 4 in. (10 cm).

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

1. Cowl is worked in joined rnds with RS always facing. Do not turn at end of rnds.
2. Each rnd consists of 2-dc groups alternated with shells.

a. Rnds 1 and 4 alternate 2-dc groups and (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) shells.
b. Rnd 2 alternates 2-dc groups and (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) shells.
c. Rnd 3 alternates 2-dc groups and (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) shells.

3. Each 2-dc group is worked into the 2 dc of each group in the previous row. The shells are worked directly above the shells in the previous row. This creates columns of 2-dc groups and columns of shells (see Stitch Diagram).

Ch 84. Being careful not to twist, join with sl st in beg ch.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc here and throughout), dc in next ch, sk 2 ch, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch, sk 2 ch, * dc into next 2 ch, sk 2 ch, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch, sk 2 ch; rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in next dc, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, sk 2 dc, * dc in next 2 dc, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, sk 2 dc; rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc, sk next ch-sp, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-sp, sk next ch-sp and dc, * dc in next 2 dc, sk next ch-sp, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-sp, sk next ch-sp and dc; rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in next dc, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in ch-sp, sk 2 dc, * dc in next 2 dc, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in ch-sp, sk 2 dc; rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch 3.
Rnds 5-10: Rep Rnds 2-4 twice. Fasten off.
Working along opposite side of foundation ch, join yarn with sl st under the right dc of any 2 dc group.
Rep Rnds 1-10, lining up sts in Rnd 1 with the sts on the opposite side. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.
