Lion Brand® LB Collection® Baby Alpaca

GAUGE:

15 dc = about 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Ch 84. Being careful not to twist, join with sl st in beg ch.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc here and throughout), dc in next ch, sk 2 ch, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch, sk 2 ch, * dc into next 2 ch, sk 2 ch, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch, sk 2 ch; rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in next dc, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, sk 2 dc, * dc in next 2 dc, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, sk 2 dc; rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc, sk next ch-sp, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-sp, sk next ch-sp and dc, * dc in next 2 dc, sk next ch-sp, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-sp, sk next ch-sp and dc; rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch.

I loved this pattern. Don't be deterred by the poor reviews. It didn't seem like a difficult pattern at all. After you get through rows 1-4, you'll understand the pattern of the fan and see how it fits together. I used a boucle yarn and it's luscious but you can still see the pattern. While I wouldn't start with a boucle for the first cowl, if you aren't an intermediate or better crocheter, but this pattern will look lovely in many types of yarn, even your most basic worsted weight yarn.
