GAUGE: 30 sts + 40 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with A. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Continue as established, keeping first and last 14 sts in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with A and working rem sts in Check Pattern with B as CC, until piece measures 7 in. (18 cm) from beg, end with a Row 4 of Check Pattern.
Next Row: Cut B, join C. Continue as established, keeping first and last 14 sts in St st with A and working rem sts in Check Pattern with C as CC, until piece measures 14 in. (35.5 cm) from beg, end with a Row 4 of Check Pattern.
Next Row: Cut C, join D. Continue as established, keeping first and last 14 sts in St st with A and working rem sts in Check Pattern with D as CC, until piece measures 20 in. (51 cm) from beg, end with a Row 4 of Check Pattern.
