Felted and Mended Afghan

GAUGE:
16 sts + 22 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with A BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES:
1. Blocks are knit as rectangles. During felting process, Blocks will become Square.
2. Embroidery is worked onto felted Blocks, then Blocks are sewn together to make Afghan.
3. Pattern is designed to encourage creativity. Embroidered motifs are meant to be freeform, simple shapes. Change the scale of the motifs or embroider more or fewer stitches to vary the motifs. If desired, simple shapes such as squares or triangles can be outlined with masking tape on surface of Afghan, and embroidery worked within the outlined shapes.
BLOCK (make 12) With A, cast on 76 sts.
Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures 21 in. (53.5 cm) from beginning.
Bind off.
FINISHING
Felting Wash Blocks by machine on a hot wash/cold rinse cycle with detergent and several pieces of clothing to agitate. To felt additionally, dry by machine on a regular setting until almost dry. Remove from dryer and pull into shape. Felted Blocks should measure about 14 x 14 in. (35.5 x 35.5 cm). Allow to dry completely.
Embroidery With B, embroider straight st shapes onto each felted Block as desired. In our Afghan, we embroidered square, rectangle, triangle, chevron, and diamond shapes.
Assembly Arrange embroidered Blocks on a flat surface in 3 rows of 4 Blocks each. From RS, with C, sew straight sts back and forth between Blocks to join.
Weave in ends.

Great look! "Hand-made" look is charming. Nice weight throw. I had lots of fun making it. I panicked briefly when I threw all 12 pieces into the washer with a couple of pairs of jeans.
