GAUGE:
22 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in K2, p2 rib. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES:
Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
SHRUG Cast on 132 sts.
Row 1: *K2, p2; rep from * across.
Rep Row 1 until piece measures 24 in. (61 cm) from beginning.
Bind off.
FINISHING Fold piece in half (bringing side edges together) to form an 12 x 24 in. (30.5 x 61 cm) rectangle.
Leaving 7 in. (18 cm) below fold open for armhole, seam one 12 in. (30.5 cm) open side for 5 in. (12.5 cm).
Ruffle From RS, pick up and knit 284 sts evenly spaced along the edge of the open side opposite fold.
Join, being careful not to twist. Place marker for beg of rnd.
Rnd 1: *K1, k into front and then back of next st; rep from * around – 426 sts.
Next rnd: *K3, p3; rep from * around.
Rep last rnd until Ruffle measures about 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm).
Bind off.
Weave in ends.

No, the way the assembly of the shrug in the original pattern doesn't match the pattern photo, but it DID fit my body better!! And I LOVE it! After knitting the basic rectangle as described, I pinned the pattern together the way the experienced reviewers recommended, then I did it the way the pattern recommended, and it simply fit better. I really like the way it fits and the way the ribbed pattern runs down the back much better. It IS odd that the website photo isn't the way the pattern is described, BUT it IS much better. I am SO HAPPY with the end result! This is my first ever "garment" for the body, besides socks. Thank you, Lion Brand!
