GAUGE:

17 sts + 32 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (knit every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

BOOTIES (make 2)
Cast on 24 stitches.
Work in Garter st (knit every row) for a total of 34 rows.
Next Row (shape toe): (K2tog) across row – 12 sts.
Next Row: Knit.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail into large-eyed blunt needle, then thread one at a time through all 12 sts. Pull tail to gather sts together. Knot yarn to secure. With same yarn, sew open edges of Bootie together from toe to within 2 1/2 in. (6.25 cm) of opposite end of Bootie. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Thread large-eyed blunt needle and sew remaining end of Booties for back seam.
DRAWSTRINGS
For drawstring, cut two 18 in. (45.75 cm) strands of yarn. Thread one strand into large-eyed blunt needle and weave through top edge of each Bootie, beginning and ending at front of Bootie. (This will allow you to loosen and tighten top of Bootie).
Tassels (make 4)
1. Wrap a strand of yarn around cardboard 10 times.
2. Cut yarn leading from ball. Cut a 4 in. (10 cm) length of yarn, thread through top of tassel and tie tightly. Cut yarn strands at other end of tassel open and remove cardboard.

3. Cut a 6 in. (15.25 cm) length of yarn and wrap around tassel tightly several times at midpoint. Weave yarn ends into Tassel. Tie Tassels to ends of drawstring. Tie drawstring into bows.
Weave in ends.
