GAUGE:

3 dc + 5 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern st. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

SHAWL
Ch 51.
Row 1: (Dc, ch 2, dc) in 6th ch from hook, * sk next 2 chs, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch; rep from * across to last 3 chs, sk next 2 chs, dc in last ch – 15 ch-2 sp.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, (dc, ch 2, dc) in each ch-2 sp across to last dc, sk last dc, dc in next ch.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn, (dc, ch 2, dc) in each ch-2 sp across to last 2 dc, sk next dc, dc in last dc.
Rep Row 3 until piece measures 72 in. (183 cm) from beg. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.

I hadn't crocheted in over 10 years, and decided to see if I still could. This pattern was perfect to get back in the 'groove' of crocheting. I agree that the first row was a little difficult using Homespun yarn, but after that it went fast and easy.
