STITCH EXPLANATION:
Blanket Stitch Working from left to right, bring large-eyed blunt needle from back to front. Bring needle around and from front to back, catching yarn to form a "corner.”
BLOCK (make 8 Blocks, 4 each with A and B) Ch 14.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures about 5 in. (12.5 cm) from beginning.
Fasten off.
STRAP With C, ch 51.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across.
Rows 2-5: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across.
Fasten off.
FINISHING Alternating colors and direction of sts, seam 4 Blocks together for front and 4 Blocks together for back.
Seam front and back together around 3 sides, rounding lower corners, to make Bag.
With C, embroider cross stitches across horizontal seams of front and back, and blanket st around top of Bag.
Sew Strap to top sides of Bag. With B, embroider a cross stitch on each end of Strap.
Weave in ends.

I only had one ball of the suggested yarn, and I think it would have turned out better if I'd had it for all three colors. My other yarns were a little thinner and so I adjusted the stitch count to make the 5-inch squares. Mine doesn't have quite the same chunky look, but it's still cute. The cross stitching and blanket stitch are a nice touch.
