9-Patch Baby Throw

Lion Brand® Vanna's Choice® Baby

GAUGE:

1 Square = 8 x 8 in. (20.5 x 20.5 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

AFGHAN
SQUARE (make 9 – 5 with A and 4 with B)
Ch 29.
Row 1: (Sc, 2 dc) in 2nd ch from hook, *sk next 2 ch, (sc, 2 dc) in next ch; rep from * 7 more times, sk next 2 ch, sc in last ch – 28 sts.
Rows 2–19: Ch 1, turn, (sc, 2 dc) in first sc, *sk next 2 sts, (sc, 2 dc) in next st; rep from * 7 more times, sk next 2 sts, sc in last st. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Arrange Squares in 3 rows of 3 Squares each, as follows:
Row 1: A, B, A.
Row 2: B, A, B.
Row 3: A, B, A.
Sew Squares together. Weave in ends.

I've made two of these as a 9-patch blanket and love the easy, but complicated looking stitch. Since then I've modified it to use as an all over stitch without making it in blocks. I've made many baby blankets, but this stitch continues to be my favorite.
