GAUGE:

4 1/2 V-sts + 6 1/2 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in V-st pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Earth Baby Afghan Reviewed by Paige Nance on 2009-10-17 *****
I just started crocheting this year and this blanket is the most challenging thing I've tried so far. The V stitch was easy once I finally figured it out and the blanket is gorgeous! Only thing is (and this may just be me) I had to use an H hook to get it to not look stringy, and it still doesn't look as tight as the one in the picture. Either way, I'm really proud of myself for finishing it and I enjoyed the challenge :)
