GAUGE: 24sts= 4 in. (10 cm) over pattern with larger needles. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

With smaller needles, cast on 56sts.
Work in K2, p2 rib until piece measures about 2 1/2 in. (6.4 cm) from beg,decrease1 st at end of last row – 55sts.
Change to larger needles.
Row 1 (RS):K1tbl, p1, k1tbl, *p2, k6, p2, k1tbl, p1, k1tbl, rep from * 3 more times.
Rows 2, 4, and 6:P1tbl, k1, p1tbl, *k2, p6, k2, p1tbl, k1, p1tbl, rep from * 3 more times.
Row 3: K1tbl, p1, k1tbl, *p2, 3/3 LC, p2, k1tbl, p1, k1tbl, rep from * 3 more times.
Rows 5 and 7: Rep Row 1.
Row 8:Rep Row 2.
Rep Rows 1-8 until piece measures about69 in. (175 cm) from beg, end with a Row 8 and increase 1 st at end of last row.
Change to smaller needles.
Work in K2, p2 rib for 2.5 in. (6.4 cm). Bind off.
