GAUGE:

Rnds 1–2 = 2 1/2 in. (6.5 cm) across; 1 Square = 7 1/2 in. (19 cm) across. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Neutrals Log Cabin Afghan Reviewed by Ruth Kukaska on 2013-03-23 *****
I am currently making this afghan and the instructions are exact, you need to follow each line of the instruction or you will get lost.

Shari I suggest you try again, don't give up so easily.

I didn't buy the colors they recommend, just using cream, coffee brown, tan and frost green, it's beautiful and fits perfect in my country setting.
