GAUGE:

18 sts + 25 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in K2, p2 Rib, slightly stretched;
10 sts + 5 1/2 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in dc.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting horizontal thread lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop.
skp Slip 1, knit 1, pass slip stitch over knit stitch.

PATTERN STITCH
K2, p2 Rib (multiple of 4 sts)
Row 1 (WS): P3, *k2, p2; rep from * to last st, p1.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for K2, p2 Rib.



BACK
Cast on 48 (56) sts.
Work 15 (5) rows in K2, p2 Rib.
Next (Inc) Row (RS): K3, M1, continue in K2, p2 Rib to last 3 sts, M1, k3 – 50 (58) sts.
Rep Inc Row every 4th row 19 (23) more times, working all added sts into rib as established, AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 2 1/2 (3) in. (6.5 (7.5) cm) from beg, place a marker on needle to divide sts in half and, on next RS row, shape back as follows:
Row 1 (RS): Work in pattern as established to 2 sts before marker, skp, sl marker, k2tog, continue in pattern to end.
Row 2: K the k sts and p the p sts.
Rows 3 and 4: Rep last 2 rows.
Rows 5–8: Work in pattern as established.
Row 9: Work in pattern as established to marker M1, sl marker, M1, continue in pattern to end.
Row 10: K the k sts and p the p sts.
Rows 11 and 12: Work in pattern as established.

Inc Row (RS): K3, M1, continue in rib as established to last 3 sts, M1, k3 – 42 (42) sts.
Rep Inc Row every 6 (4) rows 11 (19) more times, working all added sts into rib as established – 64 (80) sts.
Continue even in pattern as established until piece measures 14 3/4 (15 1/4) in. (37.5 (38.5) cm) from beg, end with a WS row.
Shape Sleeve Cap
Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows – 56 (72) sts.

Rows 2–21 (23): Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), turn, dc in each st across.
Row 22 (24): Ch 3, turn, place marker for side edge, 2 dc in next st, dc in each st across – 54 (56) sts.
Row 23 (25): Ch 3, turn, dc in each st to last 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in last st – 55 (57) sts.
Rows 24(26)-29(31): Rep last 2 rows 3 more times – 61 (63) sts.
Rows 30 (32)-31 (35): Rep Row 2. Fasten off.

RIGHT FRONT
Ch 55 (57).

Sew marked side edges of Fronts to side edges of Back and remaining half of Sleeve cap.
Collar
Row 1 (RS): With RS facing, join yarn with sl st in top corner of Right Front. Ch 3, dc in each st across Right Front; work 9 (10) dc evenly spaced across bound- off edge of right Sleeve; work 38 (42) dc evenly spaced across top edge of Back; work 9 (10) dc evenly spaced across bound-off edge of left Sleeve; dc in each st across Left Front –178 (188) dc.
Rows 2–10: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across.
Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
