GAUGE:

Exact gauge is not essential to this project. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

PETALS
With A, ch 4, join with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 5, *sc in ring, ch 3, rep from * 4 more times. Join with sl st in 2nd ch of beg ch.
Rnd 2: *(Sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc) in next ch-3 sp, rep from * 5 more times. Join with sl st to beg sc. Fasten off.

TRUMPET
Note: Rnds 1-6 of Trumpet are worked in continuous rnds. Do not join; mark beg of rnds.

With A, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Place marker for beg of rnd, move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around – 12 sc.
Rnds 3-6: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 8: Ch 4, *sc in next st, ch 4, rep from * around. Join with sl st in same sp as beg ch. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Stem
Join B by working a sl st around pencil, just below eraser end. Work sc around pencil to just before pencil tip. Fasten off. Twist sts to create a spiral around pencil. Weave in ends.
Leaving centers open, sew Trumpet to center of Petals.
Weave in ends. Slide assembled Daffodil over eraser end of pencil.
