GAUGE:

Rnds 1-9 = 8 in. (20.5 cm) diameter. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Spike stitch Yarn over hook, insert hook in next stitch 3 rows below, pull up loop even with current row, yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.
Long Spike stitch Yarn over hook, insert hook in next stitch 4 rows below, pull up loop even with current row, yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.

NOTES:

1. After working a spike stitch, take care to skip the stitch, in the current row, over which the spike stitch was worked.
2. Change color at the end of a rnd by working join as follows: insert hook in top of beg ch, yarn over with new color and draw through both loops on hook. Fasten off old color.

I love it, it works up quickly. So far I have made this pattern four times. The first time I used only three colors, this last timr I used 7 colors... I plan to make it again and again... Its just nice to work on using any variety of colors and yarn combinations
