GAUGE:

8 stitches and 12 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch (knit on right side, purl on wrong side). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Extra Easy, Extra Fabulous Sweater Reviewed by Jodie Hawley on 2011-10-09 **
Seems like an easy way to solve at least some of the problems described below would be to make one front piece similar to back but keep the front neck shaping-ie., eliminate the double-breasted element.

The T&Q yarn is a great idea but Lion should put together some better patterns.
